It was interesting to read Cobb’s presentation of the images produced within popular culture about God, because often I feel that we in the church do not dissect or try to understand these images. Instead we seem to cast them aside as “impure and incorrect representations of God” without listening to the voices that produce these cries for understanding and healing. God as the deadbeat dad in Fight Club, God as one who abandons in Wings of Desire, God as the lonely self – explorer in The Life of God, etc… These voices tell us something about culture and therefore about how God is working within a culture.
