Amy made an interesting point in her blog about Cobb;s Theology and Pop Culture Chapter. She said that “The problem is that we are past a point where Tillich’s thoughts can set up a viable foundation for a real analysis of popular culture in 2008.” I would like to disagree with Amy on this matter. I found much to learn in Cobb’s presentation of Tillich. I found the analysis of in what ways exactly we are looking for God in culture was interesting. Are we looking for an experience of the numinous, or are we looking for brokenness and cries for help? Can the latter be an experience of theology in culture, God immersed in pop culture?
