Barker’s discussion on identity and subjectivity was interesting. The notion that one’s identity is not found but made, that there is no essence to be discovered but that it is continually being produced in the context of culture- this is interesting when one begins discussing one’s identity as a child of God, made in the image of God. How do we discuss such matters in postmodern thought which suggests that the self is seen to be fragmented and shifting?

Great question – I tend to think there’s a way to put these together, that they don’t have to be opposed when looked at in perspective. But it’s a worthy question to pursue.
