In class today I found myself becoming so angry at the British ruling class of the 19th and 20th centuries. Arnold and the Leavises wished to give the working classes just enough culture (teaching of english classics) such that they would be subdued, but not enough such that they would ever be left wanting more. They never gave enough art and learning such that the working class would pursue culture or attempt to formulate a sense of self. Just enough to maintain control, because the ruling class needed the working class to exist. This made me very sad today at our history in the West.

Good work this week Annie. Great work on your reviews, and pulling out some key thoughts while keeping them succinct. Keep up the great work!
